The late C18th saw the rise in popularity of a new style of comical or caricature print. A favourite theme for ridicule were the extravangances of dress and excessive coiffure affected by fashionable society.

England was particular rich in this area and these prints leave a lasting legacy which is very often still pertinent today.

Darly was one of the earliest caricaturists and with his wife Mary he ran a highly successful publishing business, selling caricatures from his shop in London.
