HENRY C. ANDREWS 1794-1830

Andrews, who lived for many years in London, marrying the daughter of John Kennedy a nurseryman who helped write some of the descriptions for this work. Like many of the collectors & publishers of the day, Andrews was a prolific publisher. This print comes from his, “The Botanists Repsoitory for New & Rare Plants”. Original etching, superb quality. Rare.
BANKSIA

There are 76 Banksia species, and all but one occur naturally only in Australia. Banksias were named after Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820 ), who, in 1770, was the first European to collect specimens of these plants.
JOHN EDNIE BROWN 1848-1899

Brown visited the USA in 1871 writing a report on the Californian forests and soon after was given the position of Conservator of Forests in SA. In was in this position that he commissioned Rose Fiveashe to produced the images used for this series which was the largest series of Australian natives printed in the C19th.
CONRAD LODDIGE & GEORGE COOKE

Loddige produced the series the “Botanical Cabinet”,
which illustrated newly introduced plants from around
the world. Each illustration is accompanied with a an
informative description. Very influential series which introduced many new world plants to England and Europe.
JOSEPH HENRY MAIDEN 1859-1925

Botanist in NSW becoming the director of the Botanic
Gardens. His great interest in Australian flora led him in
becoming a leading advocate of conservation of native
forests and trees in urban areas.
